Lewis Merthyr Winding Gear 2 linocut print

A hand carved, hand printed linocut of one of the sets of winding gear at Lewis Merthyr Colliery, now the Rhondda Heritage Centre.

Printed on beautiful 100% cotton rag using three colours of linseed ink.

Each of these large prints is hand made and there'll be some minor variation. I cut from a single block of lino, printing the lightest colour first, then cutting into the same block for the next colour and so on until the final darkest colour. This means that a cut can never be repeated, making the small editions of prints collectable.

This version was made in an edition of eighteen and was selected for the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers “The Masters” show in London in 2019.
